Fire in gold destroys 110 hectares of forests

Posted On 06 Sep 2018

Ecuadornews:

A forest fire in the south of Ecuador destroyed 110 hectares of forests, the Citizen Security System ECU-911 reported today, after noting that more than sixty firefighters participated in extinguishing the scourge.

The ECU-911, in a statement, said that no victims or homes were reported affected by the fire that broke out in a rural sector of the Chilla area, in the coastal province of El Oro, bordering Peru.

A team from the fire department will remain in place to monitor and verify that the fire is not reactivated, the Citizen Security System reported.

In addition, the Emergency Operations Committee (COE) conducted a technical inspection to verify that there are no active hot spots in the area, the source added.

In principle, the authorities had reported that the scourge had razed some fifty hectares, but today determined that there were 110 affected.

The fire, which broke out on Tuesday, forced the temporary suspension of electricity in the area, to prevent material damage. (I)
