Fernando Villavicencio’s phone was delivered to the FBI in the United States

Fernando Villavicencio’s phone has already been handed over to FBI officials in the United States. The news was confirmed by Verónica Sarauz, widow of the presidential candidate. She explained that the delivery was made directly in North American territory.

The procedure would have been carried out by a family representative, whose identity is kept confidential for security. Sarauz pointed out that American detectives will be in charge of carrying out the corresponding investigations. All this within the investigation being carried out abroad into the murder of Villavicencio, which occurred last August.
The family has indicated that the phone was not handed over to the Ecuadorian authorities to avoid the leak of information. However, the FBI is expected to later deliver its findings to the Ecuadorian Prosecutor’s Office.
Last September it was learned that the politician and journalist’s cell phone had been thrown into the Tomebamba River, in Cuenca. One of Villavicencio’s uncles said that the cell phone had been thrown into the tributary by one of the former presidential candidate’s daughters.
However, Sarauz indicated that this information had been said in one version. But she claims that her husband’s cell phone is now in the hands of United States investigative agents.
But what information does the phone contain?
Villavicencio’s wife says she does not know with certainty the contents of the phone. However, she affirms that the former presidential candidate always kept his journalistic investigations on his devices. She does not rule out that there is important data on acts of corruption in the public sector, drug crime groups and documents on what happens in the country’s seaports.
