A new breed goes to the cattle fair
Ecuadornews:

It’s just like a beauty contest where elegance and physique are qualified. Although here the measures of 90 – 60 – 90 are transformed into about 1,100 kilos, testicles or udder well defined, back and head that distinguishes him as a bull or cow with good genetics.
The contest will be held at the livestock fair, which begins this Friday. More than 600 bovines are going to participate.
For the first time, the Wagyu race will compete. This bovine is originally from Japan. Its meat is very appreciated for its flavor and juiciness, it is used to prepare gourmet dishes.
Wagyu cuts are identified by their intense marbling, that is, the infiltration of fat into the muscle fibers.
Another novelty is that the breeding of cattle brought from Paraguay, Brazil and the USA to improve the genetics they will be at the fair, they are from the braford and brangus breeds.
José Antonio Balarezo, director of the Livestock and Galápagos Cattle Ranchers Association, told Diario EXPRESO that this year the breed brangus will be judged. “Last year there were very few and they were only in the exhibition, this year they will compete,” he said.
The event is one of the attractions of the October 9 holiday for the Independence of Guayaquil. It is estimated that more than 100,000 people will attend the cattle fair.
Last year, revenues for the entire country, for the holiday, were $ 43 million and 803,000 people traveled throughout the national territory, according to figures from the Ministry of Tourism. Of that total, the province that attracted the most tourists was Guayas (20.21%), many travel through the Livestock Expo, which takes place in Durán.
The fair will have 300 exhibitors and around 28 events. One of them is the vallenato singer Silvestre Dangond. There will be a food court and one of the attractions is the grilled buffalo. A meat with less intramuscular fat and cholesterol, rich in iron and omega 3.
The average expenditure per traveler, in 2017, for the Independence holiday in Guayaquil, was $ 53; and of the total of the income the Coast took 36.6%. This year it is expected to increase the number of tourists and revenues.
This year without horses, due to influenza
The orange alert that there is for the horses for the equine influenza, is going to prevent its presence in the cattle fair. About the disease EXPRESO published it days ago.
“It will comply with all the indications of Agrocalidad”, said to Diario EXPRESO the president of the Livestock and Galápagos Cattlemen’s Association, Francesco Tabacchi.
As for the death of livestock in a hacienda in Colimes, he stressed that it is a controlled issue. Since the control body said that the cause was a parasite (Trypanosama spp) and according to Tabacchi was detected in a single farm and treated in time, therefore this problem will not impact the fair. He stressed that Agrocalidad vigilantly watches the movement of the cattle that is going to be done these days, about the fair.
Regarding the sector, he mentioned that he will work hard to reduce cattle rustling, which is the main problem they face and that consumes a large percentage of money.
He explained that the inconvenience is no longer the price paid for the animal, but the cost of production, which is high precisely because of the money that must be allocated for security.
Therefore, he expects the new authorities to execute measures and not only remain in good intentions. (I)
