A Report Reveals More Newborns Deaths in Loja´s Hospital
In a statement issued by 10 physicians from the Newborn Intensive Care Unit Department of Isidro Ayora Hospital in Loja – Ecuador, it was warned an increasing mortality rate since 2010 in the hospital.
The document was signed by the attending physician in this area, Dr. Nuvia Ludeña, and 9 more residents where detailed that this department was polluted due to the frequency of sepsis nesocomial.
This record, that was sent to Daniel Astudillo, director of the Hospital, explained that the events are due to the children’s delicate health and the spread of a bacteria while clamming to declare the area in emergency.
Last year, there were about 46 deaths of infants in the same nursing home (16 in the last two months).Plus the 11 deaths in last January and February. In 2009 the number of deaths was about 74. Following these figures, Astudillo, was forced to admit the numerous deaths on Monday.
Otherwise, Loja’s Provincial Prosecutor, Patricio Cueva, said this morning that the institution will start the pertinent investigations, and clarified that this event wasn’t investigated before because there were no complaints on the subject.
Cueva quoted: “We are making all the proceedings”, and said that they’ll start the researches of newborn’s deaths the delivering of the death certificates from last year, but they won’t released details yet.
