Are Rosakis (born in Greece), Guruswami Ravichandran (India), José Andrade (Ecuador) and Fernando Albericio (Spain), academics of international prestige,integrate the Management Comission of the Yachay University of Research and Experimental Technology.
According to the Decree 275, signed by President Rafael Correa on Monday, they will act as authorities during the process of transition of Yachay, for five years. The Rector will then be elected through a public tender as provided by the law.
These professors, all with Ph.d. title, will meet academic, administrative and financial and regulatory functions. They will also be responsible “for planning, managing, regulating and executing all actions necessary for the normal performance of the institution”, the Decree stipulated.
The Ecuadorian Andrade, Associate Professor and director of the laboratory of Geomechanics at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), in the United States, served as a link between the Yachay project and that institution. Rosakis is Dean of the Faculty of engineering and applied science of Caltech. Albericio holds a Ph.d. in Chemistry from the University of Barcelona. Ravichandran is Professor of Aeronautics and Mechanical Engineering, and directs the Caltech graduate aerospace laboratories.
