Posted On 06 May 2013
On Saturday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that its members will receive DVDs of nominated documentaries, shorts and foreign films, which are usually not displayed to the public for a long time in theaters.
Hawk Koch, president of the Academy, said that the objective is to increase the participation of the members and give them more opportunities to see all the nominated films before voting.
Before the final round of voting, the Academy will send the DVDs by mail which will contain the films in the categories of Best Foreign Language Film, Documentary, Short, Short Cartoons and Action Short Film. The nomination process will continue unchanged.
