Airport of Quito seeks to optimize its operation
To reduce the number of suspensions of flights due to the bad weather, the Corporación Quiport, the concessionary of the airport Mariscal Sucre, reported yesterday that they will implement air terminal equipment to avoid the continuous suspensions because of the bad weather. These measures are directed, above all, to improve visibility.
Thick fog and rain that have fallen in Quito and its surrounding areas over the past few weeks are the causes of the recent closures of the new airport in the capital, which caused delays on domestic and international flights and the complaint of users.
Quiport indicated that a system that allows pilots to clarify its approach in low visibility conditions will be installed at the Northern part of the track called Instrumental Landing System (ILS), which, at the time the airport has only one.
The concessionary is working in the system named RVR, which allows to measure automatically the levels of visibility and analyzes installing cross lights in the middle of the track.
