Bashar al-Assad speaks about conspiracy

This Tuesday, the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad taunted the rebels and vowed to subdue what he qualified as a foreign-backed plot against his country.

“We will defeat this conspiracy,” added al-Assad in his two-hour speech.

Al-Assad stated that this is the greatest challenge he has faced in his 11-year rule. The Syrian president denied his government ordered security forces to open fire on anyone. However, the death toll reported by the United Nations is more than 5,000 casualties since mid March.

The government blames the attacks in the capital Damascus to foreign-backed terrorists. Meanwhile the opposition claims the government has carried out this attacks to sully the demonstrators image. The Syrian leader mocked the protesters calling themselves revolutionaries. (AV)
