Syria’s rebel fighters, members of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) control almost two-thirds of the northern city of Aleppo. However a commander of the Syrian regime forces said today that the claims of the rebels are false.
FSA Colonel Abdel Jabbar al-Okaidi told AFP news agency, “We control more than 60 percent of the city of Aleppo, and each day we take control of new districts.” However the Colonel claims could not be verified according to a security source in Damascus.
Okaidi stated that, “every time we seize an area, the army responds with shelling.” Aleppo has been the epicentre of the conflict since the fighting started almost a month ago. The Colonel stated that Aleppo’s residents are helping the FSA by giving them food and water. (AV)
