Alfredo Di Stefano dies at 88 years old in Madrid
Alfredo Di Stefano, Honorary President of Real Madrid and historic Argentine soccer player passed away this Monday at 88 years old in the Gregorio Marañón Hospital of Madrid, after he suffered a cardiac arrest on Saturday near the Bernabeu stadium.
Di Stéfano was in an induced coma, with orotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation in the Coronary Care Unit of the Gregorio Marañón hospital, victim of a “severe cardiopathy”, according to the latest medical report released on Monday morning.
This Monday night a funeral chapel in the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium will be installed for all fans who wish to say goodbye to the most important player in the history of Real Madrid.
As a soccer player he played in clubs River Plate, Millonarios and Real Madrid, and won five European Cups and two Gold ballons. In addition, he was considered by FIFA as one of the five best soccer players of the twentieth century along with Pele, Beckenbauer, Maradona and Cruyff.
