Angelina Jolie Meets with Chancellor Ricardo Patiño
Actress Angelina Jolie, Goodwill Ambassador for the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), met yesterday with ecuadorian Chancellor to begin the campaign ‘Thanks Ecuador‘, which drives the international organization in recognition of the work for refugees in this country.
“If it was not for Ecuador, they were not alive now,” said the actress, who days earlier visited the Galapagos Islands with her husband, actor Brad Pitt, and their children.
In the morning, Jolie visited the border towns of Barranca Bermeja and Providence, in Sucumbios, informed the Foreign Ministry in a statement.
During her visit, the actress met with refugees who fled the conflict between the Colombian Army and Illegal Armed Groups (IAG).
UNHCR figures indicate that Ecuador has 56,000 refugees and 21,000 and asylum seekers. While monthly shelter offices get 1,300 new applications. (ARL)
