The American actress announced through an article published in the New York Times newspaper, that she removed her two breasts in order to reduce the chances of developing cancer, due to their family background, because this disease killed her mother in 2007, producer and actress Marcheline Bertrand who died at the age of 56, from ovarian cancer.

Specialists explained that with this surgical intervention they did not remove totally the mammary gland, but the nipple respected and ducts that supply it: a vein and an artery, that pass through the middle of the breast.

Using the text entitled “My medical option”, Jolie explained that she is a carrier of the gene BRCA1, which dramatically increases the risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer in women who have it.

“I feel strengthened by the difficult decision that I have taken, but in any case is compromised my femininity,” she says. “For all the women who read this, I just hope to help them learn about their options”, says the 37-year-old actress.
