The ashes that are thrown from the Tungurahua Volcano has affected crops in the villages near the colossus, leaving increases between 5% and 50% in the prices of products coming from the central highlands.

The price increase is noticeable in the Groceries Transfer Terminal at Montebello, where products arrive to be transferred to retailers of Guayaquil markets.

In the last week, white onions, beans, lettuce, sambo, broccoli, Ambato potatoes and peas suffered price rises, traders said.

In the City retail markets, the first increases were noted in the prices of beans and peas, late last week. (MZ)
