Assange Defense requests that the interrogation be conducted in London
This Wednesday, the Swedish lawyers from Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks, asked the interrogation to be conducted at the Embassy of Ecuador in London, where he is being held, regarding the allegations of rape against him in Sweden.
Assange fears the extradition to the United States from Sweden to condemn him for espionage after the WikiLeaks revelations.
Thomas Olsson and Per Samuelsson, Assange’s lawyers criticized the obstinacy of Swedish justice to question him in Sweden, according to an article published by the newspaper Svenska Dagbladet.
According to the Swedish criminal procedure, the interrogation during the preliminary investigations must take place “at the time and place that cause the least possible inconvenience to the person who has to be interrogated,” the lawyers said.
Meanwhile, the Swedish judges handling the case consider that Assange can only be interrogated in Sweden.
