Assembly accepts resignation of María Alejandra Vicuña

The National Assembly has approved the resignation of María Alejandra Vicuña to the Vice Presidency of the Republic, with 94 votes in favor, none against, and no abstention or blank vote.
It will be the Assembly that elects the new Vice President of the Republic after the morning of today President Lenin Moreno announced the names that make up the short list.
Otto Ramón Sonnenholzner Sper, tops the list, followed by Nancy Fabiola Elizabeth Vasco Noboa and Agustín Guillermo Albán Maldonado.
Ex-VicePresident Vicuña resigned from office a day after Lenin Moreno freed her from her duties, so that she can “defend herself without interference”from the accusations of alleged illegal charges to ex-advisors when she was Assembly woman
Vicuña came to occupy the vice presidency, which was only eleven months in charge,then the same Assembly then headed by José Serrano (dismissed shortly after to hold talks with the fugitive from justice Carlos Pólit) the chosen one of a short list presented by President Lenin Moreno himself.
That list was also formed by the correístas María Fernanda Espinosa and Rosana Alvarado.
Lenin Moreno sent said trio on January 3, 2018 to the Assembly after declaring that Jorge Glas was no longer a vice president having completed 90 days of absence in office.
Former Vice President Jorge Glas, was sentenced on December 13, 2017 to six years in prison for the crime of illicit association in the corruption case for the bribes of the Brazilian company Odebrecht.
The Assembly is preparing to elect the third vice president of Ecuador in a periodof government. (I)
