Assemblymen Denounce Judicial Prosecution
Two non-government assembly members, Clever Jimenez from the Pachakutik movement (PK) and Mery Zamora, alternate legislator in the Popular Democratic Movement political party (MPD for its Spanish acronym), are on trial for alleged crimes against the state and for sabotage of public and private services.
The first case was opened in Guayaquil against Zamora, former president of the National Union of Educators (UNE for its Spanish acronym), over the crime of sabotage. Zamora faces precautionary measures and claims to be persecuted by the ruling regime.
The second case was opened against the legislator Clever Jimenez, Democratic Pole advisor, Fernando Villavicencio, and the leader of the Medical Federation, Carlos Figueroa, for making a false indictment on the 30-S events.
According to Jimenez, this case is part of a governmental strategy to try to silence those who denounce acts of corruption of the government. MZ
