Attorney General does not defines the case of the diplomatic suitcase
To this date, the Attorney General’s Office has not answered if the case of the diplomatic suitcase would be file or not. For Fernando Cazares, former attorney general, the case should not be closed, even though according to the Criminal Procedure Code the preliminary investigation cannot last more than 12 months.
A year has passed yill this day, January 24, 2013, since the beginning of the events regarding the shipment of cocaine in a diplomatic suitcase that was discovered in Italy. However, Cazares notes that if the prosecution has not found sufficient grounds for attributing criminal liability, “unfortunately the case should be provisionally closed.”
He added that the Comptroller is unaware of any criminal liability have been ratified. Meanwhile Italy did justice and issued a guilty verdict against five Ecuadorians, but Ecuador still has not established any responsibilities.
