Bachelet announces candidacy for the presidency of Chile
After her resignation as Executive Director of UN Women and her arrival to her native country, the former President of Chile Michelle Bachelet, announced her candidacy for the presidential elections to be held on November 17 this year.
“With joy, with determination and with great humility I have chosen to be a candidate,” said Bachelet during a public meeting in El Bosque, a working class neighborhood on the outskirts of Santiago.
At the moment of making the announcement, the former president was surrounded by hundreds of supporters, mostly women, who spontaneously sang the national anthem after listening to her words.
Bachelet said she will would work to lead the next government, “the first of a social and political majority that allows to face inequality and build a more inclusive Chile.”
