Bahia Gardner, Galapagos: A paradise recommended for tourism

A post on the online edition of the Brazilian magazine Terra, highlighted Bahia Gardner beaches in the Galapagos Islands (Ecuador) as one of the 30 best beaches in the world.

The report entitled “Travel and enjoy. Choose 30 amazing beaches in the world,” highlights a list of 30 beaches around the world, in which also shows exotic spas in other countries, such as Thailand, United States, Costa Rica, Australia, Chile and France.

In Alejandra Ordonez’ opinion, director of the Public Use of Galapagos National Park Directorate (DPNG for its Spanish acronym), this nomination is distinctive for the Galapagos.

“The bay is one of the most important sites within the islands. Galapagos as such has several awards and we are amazed that a particular location has one.”

Qualities of Bahia Gardner:

Gardner Bay, located on the north coast of the Spanish island, has a visiting area defined by two beaches, with a length of 1,300 meters.

Its beaches are known for its white sand, the island landscape, colonies of sea lions in the bay and the singing finches, which are the unique charm of this bay.

In this site, an individual can see different species of birds and is considered an important area for nesting of sea turtles from the Chelonia Mydas species.

The Galapagos National Park website states that the beach is an open area, but the visitors must be careful not to step on turtle nests and maintain safe distance with the sea lions.

Preservation of the Island and its species:

An issue mentioned in the digital version of the Brazilian magazine, that could affect the growing demand of visitors. However, Ordonez said that it will not affect the ecosystem of the bay, since it will continue with a limited number of tourists, thus, maintaining its permanent preservation.

Ordonez explained that the authorized cruise fleet to visit Bahia Gardner is formed by 68 vessels, while the acceptable load of visitors is five daily groups of up to 16 passengers each, ie, 80 tourists.

Distinctions:

Among the most recent awards granted to  Galapagos as a tourist destination, are the Best Green destination of South America and Best Island, awarded by the World Travel Awards and Travel & Leisure, respectively.
