Banana growers raise a law
Ecuadonews:

A bill for the Promotion of Prices and Markets for the Development of a Sustainable Economy for the Agricultural Sector is what the representatives of the banana farmers propose.
That is why yesterday they submitted the initiative to the Commission on Food Sovereignty of the Legislature. They assure that the Achilles’ heel of the sector is the commercialization. In Ecuador, bananas are the most consumed products after rice and potatoes. For those who produce them, is enough to be a matter of food sovereignty.
The proposal includes low-interest credits, direct links to clear marketing channels and the producer as the direct beneficiary of the producer.
President of the Banana Association of Ecuador Byron Paredes stressed the need for an Agricultural Law. He also spoke of the need to increase the industrialization of agricultural products. “Today we talk about a sustainable economy and to generate it is necessary to start with sustainable production and marketing.” (I)
