Bolivar Province has the First Indigenous Governor of Ecuador

This morning the Ecuadorian president, Rafael Correa, took Angel Ovidio Bayas as the first indigenous Governor to be in charge of the province of Bolivar Office.
After his inauguration, Bayas pledged to work to “unite the whole society in general, to unite all the half-breed population of the province of Bolivar,” where 60% of the population is Indian.
Inhabitants of the Canton Guaranda concentrated in the central park to witness the inauguration ceremony. The event ended with the surrender of the baton to the head of state and governor.
