British Tabloid to Close Amid Scandal
The 168-year-old British tabloid News of the World, one of the oldest and best-selling newspapers in Britain will publish its final issue this Sunday. Serious accusations were made against this prestigious newspaper as the truth came out; News of the World had been spying cell phone messages of murder victims, politicians and celebrities.
Against the accusations made, News International Chairman James Murdoch announced the shut down of the newspaper this Thursday. After the shocking statement, more than 200 employees that worked for News of the World are now without a job. The newspaper hacked the phones of 4,000 victims according to police investigations.
Amongst those is a 13-year-old who was later found to have been murdered. It also revealed other victims like British troops killed in Afghanistan and Iraq; this raised the scandal to a whole new level. Apparently the newspaper hacked the phone of the girl and deleted her messages giving false hope to her parents. This outraged Britain.
