Volcanic Ash Cancels Argentinean Flights During Copa America
Several air companies cancelled their flights this Thursday in the Buenos Aires airport and some services of the terminal Ezeiza due to the presence of the volcanic ash. This catastrophic order came in a bad time since Argentina is hosting the championship Copa America.
This new cancellations occurred due to the appearance of volcanic ash from the Chilean volcano Puyehue that erupted on June 4. However the airports are attending normally as the flight companies are the ones that order the cancellations.
An Air France plane that should have landed in Ezeiza took a detour to the Guarulhos airport in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Flights from Argentinean Airlines and Austral remained cancelled until the afternoon.
Continental, United Airlines and American cancelled or delayed dozens of flights to and from Argentine airports. Aerolineas Argentinas cancelled many domestic flights.
Meanwhile the provinces in the south of Argentina, Rio Negro and Neuquen are in a state of emergency due to the economical and environmental damage that the volcano has caused to the tourism of the sector. (AV)
