Byron Piedra reach quota for Olympics Games London 2012
Byron Piedra became the fourth Ecuadorian athlete to reach a quota for the forthcoming Olympic Games in London in 2012 when he achieved the mark in a competition in Palo Alto, California, USA.
“We are in the Olympics Games in London 2012. Trademark A at 10,000 meters (27, 32s); the second best record in the history of South America,” says the athlete from the province of Azuay, on his Twitter account.
Angel Bustamante, president of the Sports Federation of Azuay (FDA in Spanish), said: “He was just four seconds of breaking the record South American in the 10,000m., which boasts the renowned Brazilian Marilson Gomez undercard.”
Along with Piedra, joins Rolando Saquipay and Andres Chocho in 50 and 20 kilometers up as well as athlete Rosalba Chacha, becoming the four representatives at the next games.
