Capriles: “I have not offended Chavez or his family”
The opposition presidential candidate Henrique Capriles said that “has not offended” the late President Hugo Chavez or his family, after warning his adversary and acting president, Nicolas Maduro, that “you are the problem Nicolas, you are the one who lied.” Capriles also assured that “the fight is between you and me. Do not use the situation for the campaign.”
“I do not play in the field of offending families, as they have done with mine. They have named me a Nazi. Nazi when my grandparents were murdered in a Nazi concentration camp! Everyone wants to live in peace and respect! “Capriles said through his Twitter account.
Capriles’ statement comes after members of the Chavez family pronounced themselves over alleged intentions of the opposition candidate to discredit the leader of the so-called Bolivarian Revolution.
The first to do so was Argenis Chavez, the president’s brother, who said in a conversation with state television that Capriles made “disrespectful statements” to the memory of President and the “dignity” of his family, by “suggesting” that his parents, sons and brothers agreed to conceal information about the situation of Chavez.
Later on, the second daughter of the late president, Maria Gabriela, also expressed her feelings on the matter through a statement read by the Minister of Communication, Ernesto Villegas, on national television: “Venezuela, with all the responsibility in the world, with all the sincerity of the shattered soul of a daughter who loved and infinitely loves her father, I tell you that my hero died fighting and died in his homeland on March 5, 2013 (referring to rumors that Chavez would have died in Cuba several days before). ”
And he added, referring to Capriles’ sayings: “It’s not fair, it’s not human, it is not acceptable to say that we have been lying about the date of his departure” and asked not “to play with the pain of the family and the people and urged them to stop being so dirty. ”
