After the preparation of a preliminary analysis by specialists from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Cuenca, it was determined that the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, located in the historic center of Cuenca requires immediate repairs and maintenance for its damages.
According to the study, the building is cracked and shredded in their physical structure since 2011. There are also inconclusive interventions and installations poorly made.
Fernando Salamea, who participated in the elaboration of the study, said the fissures and cracks are proper of the type of construction that the building has.
The most urgent repairs are coating with ceramic cover, reinforcement of two of the three domes of the church, repairing cracks in walls and improvements in the drainage system.
Currently, to prevent seepage of rain water, the domes are covered with waterproof material.
