Cattle in Baños was victim of Tungurahua’s ash
By the ravine Juive Grande located in Baños, Tungurahua, the bodies of three cows property of David Barros appeared with burn marks left by pyroclastic flows that rolled down by one of the flanks of the Tungurahua volcano during the eruption of Saturday.
Gonzalo Paz, community watchman mentioned that the animals that were at the top of the Tungurahua, were brought down on Sunday and yesterday were healed. He also reported that three cows were killed by pyroclastic flows.
Paz, said that ten heads of cattle from Eloy Sánchez were rescued with no burns, however he warned that 50 remain in the top, where the grass is contaminated with ash. Regarding the issue, he said that the Ministry of Agriculture offered molasses.
This, after Saturday’s blast created a column of about 10 km, after which the National Secretariat for Risk Management declared an orange alert in villages nearby.
