The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States ( CELAC) seeks a regional
position on the fight against drugs for a meeting on the subject convened by the United
Nations 2016 .
" We want to have a regional position that reflects the individual interests of each country,
which respects the cultural traditions of our peoples , and to take into account health aspects,
prevention, security and respect for human rights ," said the Ecuadorian Deputy Foreign
Minister Leonardo Arízaga. At the opening of the meeting of UNASUR in Quito.
Arízaga urged the 33 -member bloc to work on the concept of shared responsibility for
finding a solution to the problem rests not only on producers of narcotics. Colombia,
Peru and Bolivia are the largest producers of coca and the United States
is the largest consumer.
