César Montúfar ask for Rafael Correa to be linked for bribery in Case Odebrecht
Ecuadornews:
The ex-assemblyman César Montúfar asked the Attorney General, Paúl Pérez, to include in the previous investigation the crime of bribery, a process derived from the sentence for illicit association against former Vice President Jorge Glas and eight other persons, former President Rafael Correa and the Odebrecht company, as a legal entity.
“Without those two people this bribery investigation really has no direction. It has to be linked to this case to those who were a fundamental part of this scheme of corruption, “said Montufar, shortly before entering a version for which was convened by Prosecutor Perez.
The ex-assemblyman recalled that on November 30, 2017, he filed a complaint against Correa and Odebrecht. If you do not include them in the case, says Montúfar, this process would be without two main parts: Odebrecht, the company that bribed, and Correa, who was at the head of the Government and knew fully what was happening.
“It must be understood that the crime of bribery involving high public officials, national and transnational companies cannot be understood as individual acts of corruption. Here we speak of a system of corruption, we speak of more than 300 million in bribes, more than 100 public officials involved in illegal payments. We are not talking about individual acts, but about a system of corruption that was built and devised by the government’s leadership, from Carondelet, “he added.
The ex-legislator explained that although he has denounced this case, so far the Office of the Prosecutor has not summoned him to recognize signature. That was another of the orders Montúfar made to Pérez. (I)
