Chavez Returns to Venezuela and Cancels Mercosur Appointment in Brazil
The Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez has remained absent from the public life in Venezuela and will not attend the summit of the customs union Mercosur, set for today, stated official sources, in the midst of the speculations about his health and the treatments to which he submits regularly.
The leader appeared walking down the stairs of the plane accompanied by the vice president, Nicolas Maduro. Chavez declared himself “very happy” to be back in his country. While his collaborators attended the international airport of Maiquetia, in his first TV apparition after 22 days of media absence.
The reasons of the suspension of Chavez travel were not informed. A spokesman of the Foreign office in Brazil, Tovar da Silva Nunes said that “Chavez is not coming, they even cancelled the hotel reservation.”
