Chevron case could have a full dictum by 2014
Yesterday, the transnational company Chevron asked to the Ecuadorian Constitutional Court to reverse the judgment of $ 9 billion, since according to the spokesmen for Chevron, the opinion of Lago Agrio violates several rights and constitutional guarantees.
The Oil company said in a statement that this is the last opportunity that the justice has to discuss the subject.
Chevron based their ruling on four points including affidavits of former supporters of the Indigenous people who demand the penalization of the alleged pollution in the Amazon.
Prior to the judgement, Chevron filed a civil lawsuit in the United States Federal Court. This process is being managed by the lawyers and consultants who led the litigation against the company, who estimate that the trial in the north country must have a dictum at the beginning of 2014.
On the other hand, the indigenous collective began last week a campaign to collect funds to finance their actions inside and outside the country.
