Chevron Plaintiffs ask U.S. Judge to Withdraw From the Case
Communities in the Ecuadorian Amazon, who have a long lawsuit against Chevron due to environmental contamination, have filed a motion for recusal against the judge who takes part of the lawsuit in the United States.
“Any objective observer would conclude that this Court has given the less a bias impression,” say the Ecuadorian plaintiffs, who seek the judge Lewis Kaplan to withdraw from the case through the above motion, signed on Tuesday in the Court for the Southern District of New York.
With his 35-page motion against Lewis Kaplan applicants have responded Kaplan decisions in this complicated case, which dates back to the environmental damage suffered as a result of activities undertaken during three decades oil jointly by Texaco (later bought by Chevron) and Ecuador’s state oil company.
