Posted On 09 Jan 2015
Colombian authorities warned on January 8 that the atmospheric phenomenon El Niño, which is expected to affect the country in this first quarter of the year, can impact on agricultural activities and water supply.
“The phenomenon will mainly affect activities such as the planting schedule, the water consumption and supply and demand for agricultural products,” indicated the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (IDEAM).
“Although El Niño has not been consolidated, the warming of the Pacific Ocean has influenced the climate behavior in Colombia, with reduced rainfall and high temperatures,” added the Ideam.
