Communications Bill has new contributions

Posted On 06 Jun 2013

Ruling assemblyman and rapporteur of the draft on the Communications Bill, Mauro Andino, collected written proposals to adjust the text that will be voted on the Plenary after two or three weeks.

One of the new contributions that Andino has received came from Jose Bolivar Castillo, of the Accion Regional por la Equidad movement (ARE), who proposed the creation of the Superintendence of Communication.

On the creation of such entity, there is not a definite position in Alianza PAIS (AP). Marcela Aguiñaga, second vice president of the Assembly, says that she has not heard that the themes of the Superintendence or the media lynching would be incorporated in the articles. And insists that “the debate is over.”

For its part, the opposition thinks that the possibility of generating an addendum do that last-minute changes can be incorporated into the regulations, is regarded as undemocratic and, as a result, they ensures that it would take legitimacy from laws.

“They want to impose a law with punishment, controls, overregulation towards citizens, journalists and media … They are not going to impose a well-discussed law, but a non-democratically debated one, “said Luis Fernando Torres (CREO-PSC).
