Process against Chevron continues despite embargo cancellation
Posted On 06 Jun 2013
Pablo Fajardo, a lawyer for the Amazonian claimant communities in Ecuador, said that the cancellation of the seizure of the assets of Chevron Argentina will not stop the ruling that is pending in that country.
“The seizure is a precautionary measure, but it does not prevent us to continue the action of recognition of the judgement. (…)It does not affect the process,” said Fajardo.
Last Tuesday, the Supreme Court of Argentina anulled a seizure sentence, issued in November 2012 by a civil court judge in the country. Chevron Argentina appealed to prevent the claimant communities to access their assets.
The seizure of the company in Argentina was asked by a group of lawyers representing a group of Amazonian communities for environmental damage.
