Ecuador’s consul in New York, Linda Machuca, has contended before a group of Ecuadorians gathered at the consulate that the country does not suffer a situation of devastation after the 7.8M earthquake that struck mainly the province of Manabi on April 16.
The consul has uttered such words while explaining her position on the request of a Temporary Protection Status for Ecuadorians who are in the United States. “This is a Temporary Protection Status granted by the US government to people who come from a country that is in very difficult conditions, that is devastated, annihilated, that does not provide the necessary security conditions for its citizens. That is not the case of Ecuador,” argued Machuca.
