Correa: “I will not return to any Summit of the Americas” while I am President of Ecuador
Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa Delgado announced across a direct letter to the Chief of State of Colombia, that after a hard meditation, “I have decided that, while I am President of the Republic of Ecuador, I will not return to any Summit of the “Americas”, until decisions that the Big Mother land demands from us are made“.
In a letter of April 2, 2012, he indicates that he is deeply grateful for the gentle and repeated invitation to the Summit of the Americas, to be held in Cartagena of The Indies on the 14th and 15th of April.
Correa said that it is “unacceptable that in these summits they ignore topics as fundamental as the inhuman blockade to Cuba, as well as the aberrant settling of the Malvinas Islands, which have deserved the almost unanimous rejection of the nations of the world“.
Regarding to the “Summit of the Americas” Correa said that it cannot be named this way to a meeting where an American country is intentional and unjustifiably relegated. “We wish, the best for the region and for the world, we want the Summit of Cartagena to be successful. Our desire to accompany them is enormous, but it is only overcome by the firmness of our convictions,” he finished. (PL)
