The president of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, said today in an interview with Gama TV, that banning GM crops is a “mistake“.
“Genetically modified seeds can quadruple production and take the country’s poorest sectors out of misery” said the president.
Ecuador’s Constitution, approved in 2008, declared the country free of GM seeds and crops.
“We made a mistake in the constitution,” said Correa, who opened the door to a possible amendment. (MZ)
