Correistas ‘trolls’ work to return to power and have impunity

As evidenced by a series of studies and journalistic analyzes , and in the midst of the most serious and painful humanitarian crisis in the country, hundreds of correista trolls have launched themselves in fury against the Government. Its strategic objective is to recover the power that for 10 years they enjoyed in complete impunity.

Correistic ‘trolls’ work to return to power and have impunity

They are united with the same destructive discourse through social networks that tries to create chaos and uncertainty among Ecuadorians, to destabilize the State and hit the Lenin Moreno regime .

One of its objectives is for citizens to believe that they are capable of handling a conflict of gigantic and uncertain proportions, such as the covid-19 pandemic .

For that they use all the digital tools and media they have, in order to convince people that the country’s tragedy can be controlled from an attic in Europe. But the followers of the Citizen Revolution do not show up to face the serious corruption accusations that weigh on them.

Those who have fled from justice to other countries, such as Venezuela and Mexico , and those who from Ecuador weave networks of disinformation and citizen distress.

The group’s chief, Rafael Correa, said that the situation in Ecuador due to the health emergency would be different if it were handled by former vice president Jorge Glas. He is one of the few correístas who is in prison, sentenced to six years in prison, for illicit association. It is also under investigation for other alleged related crimes and in four other corruption cases.

The former president has forgotten that when he was in power and the earthquake of April 16, 2016 occurred , that telluric movement left nearly 700 dead, 2,700 wounded and $ 3.4 billion in losses. Correa asked for national unity (the one he and his faithful are trying to break down today) and the country began to work together.

After interrupting a tour of Europe , Correa announced on the national network economic measures that, according to what he said, were aimed at helping the victims , including: an increase of two points in VAT for one year , a single mandatory contribution of 3% on earnings , a one-time charge of 0.9% to individuals with assets over $ 1 million and a gradual contribution of one day’s salary per month to those who earn more than $ 1,000.

The crisis was of such a dimension that national and international aid was massive, supportive and immediate. More than 8 billion, between dollars and euros, came from dozens of countries and organizations. That money was never audited. In addition, other nations sent tons of food, tents, teams of rescuers, doctors, paramedics, and expert reconstruction engineers , firefighters, debris removal machinery, among other aids.

In the most affected town in the country, Pedernales ( Manabí ), epicenter of the earthquake , it was impossible to access by land for several days due to the severe damage suffered by the roads. Also due to the precarious situation and the high number of deaths in the streets, the mayor of the city at that time, Gabriel Alcívar, requested the donation of coffins and formaldehyde.

The correista trolls centers were activated in this health emergency to cause fear, panic, rumors, lies, uncertainty and discomfort among the affected population and in Ecuadorian public opinion.

Those trolls center have put up false photos or malicious or distorted news to terrorize people with the dead in the streets, as narrated by the mayor of Pedernales , who did not even have coffins for the corpses scattered throughout the city.

In such a painful moment for Ecuadorians, such as the one we live in, it would be worth asking why when then- President Rafael Correa called for national unity and the whole country joined the call, the economic measures and the state of emergency were accepted. That time, no politician made electoral calculations to subvert the political order and the legal institutions of Ecuador.

Correísmo bets to return

Former President Rafael Correa and his organization have never stopped fighting to return to power. The exmandatario never cared about the country, but the power and money they brought. Proof of this is that they left Jorge Glas as vice president, who is sentenced for Odebrecht’s corruption plot , hoping to become president shortly after the elections.

For them it is a matter of survival , they need to re-manage the country and all its functions, especially the judicial one to continue unpunished. Unfortunately, this populist model is welcomed by the population , who for a decade suffered indoctrination disguised as education.

The economic crisis left by the previous Government has taken its toll on the country in recent years. There is nothing more comfortable for a group of unscrupulous indolents than to take advantage of such deep crises, such as the one we are experiencing, to lie and make a naive people believe that they would have been able to with the crisis; nothing more false either. Gabriela Larréategui , assembly member of SUMA .
