Today, a group of councilors asked the mayor of Quito, Mauricio Rodas, for an explanation of the contract with the Acciona-Odebrecht consortium for the second phase of the metro, whose offices were raided Wednesday in the investigation of bribes of the Brazilian firm, in the country.
The group of councilors, who belong to Alianza Pais, president Lenin Moreno´s political movement, asked the Prosecutor’s Office to initiate an investigation about the “informal” negotiations held by the current municipal administration to negotiate the contract for the second phase of the metro of Quito, informed the official Andes agency.
The whistleblowers questioned that the value of this work´s phase was actually USD 449 million dollars and requested a change in the agenda in the session of the Council for the mayor to explain both the raid and the terms of the contract with the consortium Acciona-Odebrecht.
Rodas insisted that the project was awarded to the consortium that submitted the lowest economic offer and that the multilateral organizations that finance the project said that it “was in line with market prices.”
He also said that a Comptroller’s report said that the benchmark budget was underestimated. (I)
