Criminal Chamber Denies Legal Requests of El Universo

Judge Jorge Blum, member of the Criminal Chamber that set the date for the cassation hearing of El Universo newspaper informed today that the request presented by Joffre Campaña to revoke the hearing was denied.

In the statements made to the press, Blum pointed out that the requests made by the attorneys Monica Vargas and Jorge Roditti, for the suspension of the cassation hearing were rejected. Blum informed that until the moment it is unknown the judicial confession request made by Joffre Campaña.

Yesterday, Joffre Campaña, the attorney of the newspaper, arrived to the court to demand a new date and hour for the hearing. The new request came after the irregularities that obscure the trial are solved. According to Campaña, the fact that the new judges Wilson Merino, Paul Iñiguez and Jorge Blum dismissed the revocation resources after saying they are “improper.” (AV)
