Ecuador Exported 250 Million Flowers For Valentine’s Day

Ecuador exported about 10,500 tons of flowers, 70% were roses for Valentine’s Day.
United States was the destination of 41% of Ecuadorian flowers, while Russia is in second place as a destination, with 23% and Europe in third with 21%, said Ignacio Perez, CEO of the Association of Producers and Exporters Of Flowers (Expoflores).
The export season for Valentine’s Day began on January 23 and ended on February 9, during this time about 250 million flowers were sold and sent in 200 flight loads.
A profit of $ 624 million by the sales of flowers, was generated between January and November 2011 in Ecuador, which exports around 150 varieties of flowers to over 108 countries.
