Last Thursday, Cynthia Viteri, Assemblyman of the Madera de Guerrero party, presented a “complement” to her draft amendment to the Communications Act to remove part of section 64, on fines in case of recidivism of an offense.

In an interview with El Universo she explains that she does not seek to abolish the rule that imposes a double fine to the media that fall into (another) infringement. “It’s confiscatory because it has no limits, they can double it to the point of making media companies break down.”

Recidivism fine is also found in sections 23, (on) rectification; in 24, for replica; in 25, for institutional position on judicial matters; and in 27, for equal advertising of court cases, among others. Since this is about the same material I asked them to include them in the project discussed in the Commission.”
