Daniel Noboa, the DNA of politics

Daniel Noboa, has defended during the election that politics is in his DNA. In fact that is the center of his graphic line. He remembers his father, and introduces himself as his successor. The story that was not given now has a chance to be completed. The chapter that Ecuador did not write can now be developed. Will nostalgia for the past be enough to perform well in these elections?

Daniel Noboa’s strength is in his last name.

The main strength of Daniel Noboa is in his last name. In the affection towards his father; of the president that he never was, but who was always present. And also in the figure of his mother, Dr. Anabella Azin. It’s interesting how the campaign is looking to recreate the couple that was once central to politics, in this new generation. The latest productions draw a parallel between Álvaro and Anabella, with Daniel and his wife Lavinia Valbonesi. Photos from the past of the original couple in the territory, and in a very similar setting, photos of -who they want to project as- their successors. Photos of followers or militants with worn-out shirts from the early campaigns of the nineties, where the main character was the figure of the father, next to his son, wearing one of his shirts. “Thank you father for this DNA of service…”

Here we have a first contradiction. His guiding (original) campaign message is: “for a new Ecuador”. Divorcing the nostalgic message, and the family past that they try to recreate. One of the problems with this campaign concept is that it is very broad (How many times have we not been promised a new Ecuador? Who hasn’t? What does a new Ecuador consist of? What does it look like? How can I do it? imagine?), and therefore it is difficult to associate the name of Daniel Noboa with a certain value or symbol.

The latter harms their level of recognition, and therefore their intention to vote decreases. Apparently in the campaign they have identified the latter, because now they have migrated or are giving strength to a new concept: Noboa is employment. One where they mention his main strength (his last name) and offer something tangible, appealing to one of the main demands of the population. Employment is associated with his family legacy, so there is consistency and credibility.

And something that we cannot ignore either is that he is guided by the bases of the old PRIAN party. This has allowed him better development and fluidity in the territory, compared to others who are also making their debut in this presidential campaign.

Among his opportunities is that he can gain recognition and, depending on those results, gain an interesting base for 2025.

Before finishing this article, it is worth remembering that, although so far it is not among the best rated, in Ecuador’s DNA, it is surprising.
