Doubts about Deployment of Election Observers

Three months are left until the call for Ecuador Elections and the National Electoral Council (CNE for its Spanish acronym) has not yet defined the intervention of election observers to the process.

However, the authorities of the CNE and the Citizen Participation Council (CPC for its Spanish acronym) have not organized this intervention.

The president of the CNE, Domingo Paredes, proposed last June to his equal of the CPC, Marcela Miranda, the implementation of citizen review groups for the elections of 2013.

Miranda explained that recently, an agreement to conduct public participation processes was signed, but “we have not yet sat to discuss how to deploy the oversight committees”. MZ
