Ecuador celebrates Epiphany with culinary traditions
As part of the celebration for the Three Kings Day, in Ecuador is celebrated with the traditional bagel, which is prepared and marketed by large hotels and restaurants as well as in small bakeries and confectioneries nationwide.
Each bagel is prepared with a special feature. Many, choose to put shredded coconut, other use extra custard, or prefer chocolate chips or candied fruits. There are also those who use materials such as nuts, figs, raisins or prunes.
The prices of the bagels, can range from $4, $6 to $8, depending on the bakery where it can be acquired and the size of the bagels.
The tradition of the Three Kings Day bagel, came from Latin America and Spain . Formerly there were celebrations for the last day of the holiday season and they used to bake a small cake in which was hidden a bean or a small silver coin. The person who found the bean or coin was named Jewish King and was in charge of the festivities.
The the Three Kings Day and its traditional celebration marks the end of the Christmas season and the beginning of the new year.
