Ecuador welcomes the election of Sebastián Piñera as President of Chile, and aspires to continue strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation that historically have existed between the two countries, through the institutionalized mechanisms of political dialogue and reciprocal cooperation, especially in the commercial, technical and human mobility areas.

At the same time, it wishes to strengthen joint work on issues of priority interest for regional integration, and in the coordination of positions in international forums. The former President and elect again beat Alejandro Guillier on Sunday in the second round of the presidential elections. According to data from the Electoral Service (SERVEL), Piñera (2010-2014), leader of the new center-right coalition Chile Vamos, obtained 54.57% of the votes, while Guillier, representative of the center-left ruling group Nueva Mayoría , achieved 45.43%. Sebastián Piñera finally won after a first round in which he obtained 36.64%, while Alejandro Guillier reached 22.70%. According to SERVEL, the entrepreneur prevailed in 13 of the 15 regions of the country, and in 10 of them surpassed Guillier by five or more percentage points. (I)
