Ecuador faces Switzerland in Davis Cup

The series of the Davis Cup between Switzerland and Ecuador will be played between tomorrow and Sunday at the Patinoire du Littoral de Neuchâtel. The winner will play in the World Group next year and the loser will play in Group 1 of his respective area in a series of playoffs that will allow him to remain in that group, or descend.

Stanislas Wawrinka will be the rival of Emilio Gomez, while Marco Chiudinelli of Julio Campozano in the first matches, as informed by the Ecuadorian Tennis Federation.

Wawrinka is the better ranked player. The Swiss is the number 10 in the world and reached the semi-finals of the US Open, which ended on Monday. While Ecuador will play with a relatively new team, after the removal of its maximum star of the last decade, Nicolas Lapentti.
