Ecuador Grants Asylum to Assange

“Ecuador has decided to grant diplomatic asylum for Julian Assange,” said Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño at a news conference

Today Ecuadorian government granted political asylum to Julian Assange, amid the diplomatic tension between Quito and London generated by the decision on the fate of the founder of Wikileaks.

“Ecuador has decided to grant diplomatic asylum for Julian Assange,” said Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño at a news conference where he also reviewed Assange’s arguments for the request of asylum and the fundamentals that Ecuador studied on the case.

“The Government of Ecuador is confident that the British government will provide guarantees to Assange”, said Patiño after unveiling the decision. MZ
