Ecuador proposes to the OAS a popular consultation in Venezuela
Ecuadornews:
In the framework of the regular session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), held on Tuesday, June 5, Ecuador proposed a popular consultation as a way out of the political conflict that Venezuela is going through.
The President of the Republic Lenin Moreno expressed, through the social network Twitter, that “the last electoral process, with the denunciation of” red spots “, of lack of international observation, of low participation and absence of guarantees for the opposition, calls us to propose a democratic solution to the crisis that Venezuela is experiencing “with a popular referendum” in which it is decided if the results of the electoral process of May 20 should be endorsed, or if new elections are called in a near term “.
Moreno also stated in the document that “this consultation should provide guarantees of transparency and participation to all Venezuelans, without any exclusion and be made with full openness to the observation of all political parties, organized civil society and specialized international organizations like the OAS.”
Similarly, the Head of State stressed that “international economic sanctions contribute nothing to that solution, on the contrary: they generate greater internal tension and punish-historically and paradoxically-the most needy.” (I)
